It’s been a while since I’ve posted an entry here, and I thought I should update everyone on how things are going.
I’m working on iFlash and iFlash Touch whenever I have free time (reminder: I’m a full-time student at UMass Amherst). Because I want to share as much code as possible between the two versions, I’ve been focusing more attention on iFlash for the Mac than on Touch lately, but that should change soon :-).
I’ll post updates once I’ve made some more progress. Thanks to everyone for your helpful comments!

I’ve just released the iFlash 2.7.5 update! I’ve added lots of good stuff, including support for printing images that are attached to card sides. You can find out more about what changed by visiting the following link:
http://www.loopware.com/iflash/release.php
If you already have iFlash, click the iFlash menu and select “Check for New Version.” You’ll be prompted about 2.7.5 and given the chance to install. If you don’t already have iFlash, you can find out more and download it here.
Enjoy!

I’ve had a look at the iPhone/iPod touch developer’s kit, and it is easily the best mobile programming platform ever created. Apple managed to cram all the stuff that makes developing for the Mac such a joy into an incredible mobile package.
So, with that, I would like to announce that I’m beginning the development of a new iPhone app: iFlash Touch. Right now iFlash Touch is little more than scribbles on a whiteboard, but over the next few months it will grow to become a (hopefully) must-have app for any iFlash user.
Naturally I’ll post updates on the development progress via this blog. And, depending on how strict Apple is with distribution, I will hopefully be able to offer some type of public beta for everyone to try out before the official release.
But first I’d like to get your feedback. What do you want to see in iFlash Touch? Please leave comments in this blog entry. Thanks!

Apple today announced the immediate availability of the iPhone developer’s kit! I’m currently downloading the SDK (software development kit) as I type this entry, and I’ll be able to provide some more insight into what this means for iFlash on the iPhone (and iPod touch) once I’ve toyed around with it a bit more.
I’ll post updates on the blog later. Stay tuned :-).

I’ve been working hard recently on an upcoming update for iFlash, 2.7.5, and the list of fixes is growing larger every day. Here’s the list of changes so far (with more to come):
- Images are now printed out when there is no text in a card side
- “Save Audio” button added to Audio panel of the Inspector
- Auto backup feature completely re-done. A backup of each deck is now saved in the same folder as the deck itself, and used to recover a deck if iFlash should crash.
- Customizing the toolbar doesn’t crash iFlash in Leopard anymore
- Pressing the Return key while editing will bring you to the next row (like in Tiger)
- Mouse cursor when dragging doesn’t show plus symbol anymore
- Spotlight importer now runs natively on Intel Macs
- Welcome window is now centered when opened
- “Remember Keyboard Layout” option now works with Leopard (and works more smoothly overall)
Whoa! With the amount of new features going into the update, I’m thinking that I may want to do a public beta before release. Stay tuned… :-)

As you may already know, I really want to develop a mobile version of iFlash that will work on the iPhone and iPod touch. There is, however, one thing holding up development:
Apple still hasn’t released an iPhone/iPod touch developer kit!
I’m hoping that it will at least come this month, but as every day passes it seems more and more likely that a delay is in the cards.
*sighs* One can only hope…

I’m currently working on another iFlash update (2.7.5) that will fix some more Leopard issues that have been discovered. Currently the bug fix list includes:
- (Leopard) iFlash won’t crash anymore when trying to customize the toolbar
- (Leopard) Pressing Return while editing will go to the next card, like it did in Mac OS X 10.4.
If you have any small easy to fix bugs/changes, please comment below and I’ll consider them for the update. I hope to have it released within a week.
Thanks! :-)

Edit (2/19/08): I’ve delayed 2.7.5 a little longer to address a few more issues (like making table column position and width stored separately in each deck).

Just a note: iFlash’s iPod export feature isn’t compatible with the iPhone and iPod touch… yet. I plan on writing a portable version of iFlash for the iPhone/touch as soon as Apple releases their developer kit, which Steve Jobs has announced will happen in February.
I’m really eager to have iFlash on my phone, so this will definitely be top priority once the developer kit is released! :-)

Finally, the server migration is (mostly) complete! I’ve taken the opportunity to change to a new blogging sotware called chyrp, which appears totally awesome so far.
But the best news is that the iFlash Deck Library is finally back online! Yay! Although it took longer than expected, I’m happy with how the transition went. As a user, you shouldn’t notice anything different with the library. If you see anything wrong, please e-mail me!
Enjoy!
