Quick update on iFlash 3 (Aug 2014)

Loopware — Tags: — Davey @ August 14, 2014

Wow, has it been a few months already? How time flies.

Progress on the new iFlash for Mac and iOS is coming along well! The Mac version is being designed for OS X Yosemite, and the results are pretty awesome so far. Here’s a sneak peek:

It’s still very early though, and there’s lots of work left. I’ll announce more updates later :).

Quick Update on iFlash (May 2014)

Loopware — Tags: , — Davey @ May 29, 2014

Hey everyone,

A quick update: since the last iFlash and iFlash Touch updates in March, I’ve started work on a completely new version of iFlash that will share a single core between both the Mac and iOS versions. This rewrite of iFlash for both platforms will allow me to add many desired features (like images and audio on iOS… finally!).

Rewrites take time, so it will be a while before the new iFlash is ready.

I think the result will be worth it though :).

iPad support in iFlash Touch

Loopware — Tags: , , — Davey @ March 13, 2014

iFlash Touch 1.2 has been posted to the App Store, with full support for iPad! Fun tip: try pinch-closing your decks once you’ve opened them on iPad.

iFlash for Mac has also been updated to 2.9.3, and includes some small tweaks and fixes (read the release notes here).

If you enjoy iFlash and iFlash Touch, please consider leaving them a good review. They really help, and they’re a joy to read :).

Thanks!

Small update to iFlash, 2.9.1, released

Loopware — Tags: , — Davey @ February 14, 2014

iFlash 2.9.1 has been posted! The App Store version should be available immediately, and non-App-Store-ers can go get it now. You can read the change log here, if you’re so inclined.

Next up: iFlash Touch :).

Davey

Update: iFlash 2.9.2 has been released to fix an issue users of OS X 10.8 were seeing.

iFlash 2.9 is ready

Loopware — Tags: , — Davey @ January 29, 2014

iFlash 2.9 (surprise! it’s not actually 2.8.3!) has been approved by the App Store. You should see the update in your App Store shortly.

Get iFlash 2.9 from the App Store. Also, view release notes for iFlash 2.9, if that’s your thing.

The non-App Store version of iFlash has also been updated and is available immediately for all users who bought iFlash directly from Loopware.

Enjoy!

iFlash 2.8.3 public beta 2

Loopware — Tags: — Davey @ January 21, 2014

Hi everyone!

I come today with a new public beta of iFlash 2.8.3, beta 2. Here’s how to get it:

  1. Make sure you have an App Store copy of iFlash installed (it’s required for the beta).
  2. (Get beta 3 from the post above!)
  3. View the change log and discuss the beta in this Google Group.

Small but notable change in this beta: images are now shown inline when you’re studying (no more floating window). I’d love to hear your feedback on this change especially.

Thanks all!

An update on iFlash (including a public beta)

Loopware — Tags: — Davey @ January 17, 2014

First, an apology.

I’m sorry. I’m really sorry. It’s been far too long since the last iFlash update. iFlash users deserve better, and I feel horrible for not updating iFlash and for not posting status updates to this blog.

Why hasn’t there been an iFlash update? Until very recently, I was working for Apple as a designer and engineer. I am incredibly lucky to have worked at Apple, and you can see some of my work in the latest versions of OS X, as well as iOS 7.

I recently decided to leave Apple to pursue my own projects. As part of that change, I’m now allowed to provide new updates for iFlash.

The public beta.

Let’s get right to it then. Here’s a public beta of iFlash 2.8.3 for Mac that adds support for modern OS X features like Versions and App Nap, and also fix a handful of issues.

This beta is still in development. Please let me know about bugs!

To get iFlash 2.8.3 beta 1:

  1. Make sure you have an App Store copy of iFlash installed (it’s required for the beta).
  2. (iFlash 2.8.3 beta 2 has been posted above. Get that instead!)
  3. View the change log and discuss the beta in this Google Group.
  4. Keep getting new betas as they’re posted (this one will expire in about a month).

Known issues so far:

  • Playing audio won’t work when studying for audio recorded on iFlash 2.8.2 or earlier (the audio data is still there — it’ll work in the next beta of 2.8.3).

Please leave feedback for me at the Google Group above, especially if you experience any crashes (post crash logs if you can).

I hope you enjoy this new beta.

Davey

P.S. iFlash Touch is getting a modernization update too, but that isn’t ready yet. I’ll post about it here when it is.

iFlash is in the Mac App Store!

Loopware — Tags: , — Davey @ February 8, 2011

iFlash has just been approved in the Mac App Store! You can get it now by visiting this link:

http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/iflash/id409123835?mt=12&ls=1

It’s on sale for $6.99, but only for the next week.

More news to come soon :).

Loopware State of the Union

Loopware — Tags: , , — Davey @ January 9, 2011

I liked Panic’s State of the Union blog post, and thought I should do the same :).

It’s been way too long since I last posted here, and I apologize for that. I keep saying this over and over again, but I think it bears repeating: I’m (still) a full-time college student, and honestly have had no time to work on iFlash beyond responding to customer emails.

That being said, I’ve been busy the past few weeks and have started on some much-needed updates.

iFlash in the Mac App Store

iFlash 2.8.2 has been submitted to the Mac App Store! It’ll be the same price as it is now, and should be available from there soon. 2.8.2 is available now if you already use iFlash and has a few nice bug fixes, so go ahead and update!

The Mac App Store is an amazing way to get software, and I can’t wait to finally be rid of PayPal. Don’t worry if you have a non-App Store copy of iFlash though, as I’ll be providing updates to both (unlike some other developers).

iFlash Touch

I’m actively working on iFlash Touch 1.5 now, which will have full iOS 4 support, Retina icons, score and simple memorization support, as well as some other fun changes. iFlash Touch will remain completely free, but will continue to require iFlash for Mac.

I’ll be recruiting beta testers soon (within a few weeks), so keep an eye out on both this blog and my Twitter account if you’re interested. Here’s a screen shot to whet your appetite :).

Thanks everyone for your patience. I hope you enjoy the upcoming releases.

- Davey
